Equilibria Armchair

Imbalance held still, tension made whole.

“When geometry is precise, form becomes quiet and expressive.”

Designed by Virginia Arlotto Studio, Equilibria is an armchair, exploring balance through form.

Equilibria is composed through a balance of oppositions - cylindrical volumes offset against geometric blocks, with soft upholstery resting on monolithic supports - creating a composition that shifts from tension to harmony. Drawing from architecture, its oak base acts as a structural foundation, where column-like cylindrical elements, wrapped in TABU veneer, anchor a suspended platform carrying the upholstered seat as a floating volume. Measuring 99 cm wide, 70 cm high, and 72.5 cm deep, the armchair offers a generous yet grounded presence, with the veined cylinders adding subtle warmth and contrast, while the cushioned seat introduces a sense of quiet repose.

“Equilibria” is a meditation on weight, tension, and architectural poise. Composed of offset forms and monolithic materials, it captures the moment where imbalance finds stillness — where visual tension becomes quiet harmony.

Sculptural asymmetry resolved in stillness.

Balance of oppositions

Equilibria began not with symmetry, but with contradiction — the deliberate offset of weight, the tension between heaviness and levity. Its form is an arrangement of misaligned planes and unmatching volumes, composed to feel precarious at first glance, yet grounded in quiet certainty.
